Follow the progress of Clare House from the demolition!
Demolition
Start Expected to end
Status: not completed
Before anything new can take shape, Clare House must be carefully taken apart. For decades, the block has been part of the neighbourhood’s daily life, and its demolition marks a significant moment of change. Standing on site now, the scale and structure of the building are still clear, but its future is already being rewritten. Specialist teams are preparing to move in, with safety, sequencing, and care at the forefront of every decision.
This milestone includes
Pre-Demolition Preparation
Start Expected to end
Before demolition can begin, the site is carefully prepared to ensure safety and compliance. This includes surveys, utility disconnections, and the installation of hoardings and protective measures. These early steps make sure the work can proceed in a controlled and well-managed way.
Soft Strip
Start Expected to end
The building is dismantled from the inside first. Fixtures, fittings, and internal services are removed, and materials are separated for reuse or recycling where possible. This reduces waste and helps minimise disruption during the main demolition works.
Structural Demolition
Start Expected to end
With the building stripped back, demolition of the main structure can begin. Specialist equipment is used to take the block down in a planned sequence, working safely and steadily. Dust, noise, and vibration are closely monitored throughout this stage.
Waste Removal and Recycling
Start Expected to end
As demolition progresses, materials are processed and removed from site. Concrete, steel, and other materials are separated to maximise recycling and reduce landfill. This phase runs alongside demolition to keep the site clear and organised.
Ground Clearance
Start Expected to end
Once the structure has been removed, remaining slabs, foundations, and underground elements are taken out. The ground is then levelled and stabilised, leaving the site safe and ready for the next phase of works.
